Over 51,000 tonnes mustard production target fixed in Jamalpur

Agricultural extension department has fixed a target to produce 51456 tonnes of mustard in the district this year.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office sources said the mustard will be cultivated on 36754 hectares of land this year, a rise of 13194 hectares than last year.

Aiming to increase mustard production, the DAE will disburse agri incentive among 45,500 small and marginal farmers in the district.

Under the incentive programme, 45.5 tonnes mustard seeds and 910 tonnes fertilizers will be allocated for distribution among the farmers free of cost.

Each farmer will get one kilogram mustard seed and 10 kilogram DAP and 10 kilogram MOP fertilizer free of cost for cultivation on one Bigha of land, sources said.

DAE Deputy Director Zakia Sultana said farmers after harvesting T-Aman paddy will bring land under mustard cultivation.

She said farmers already harvested 12 percent T-Aman paddy till today.

Sources said farmers will cultivate mustard on 8990 hectares of land with a production target of 12586 tones in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila, 5560 hectares with production target of 7784 tonnes in Sarishabari, 5680 hectares with production target 7952 tonnes in Melandah, 6580 hectares with production target 9212 tonnes in Islampur, 3010 hectares with production target 4214 tonnes in Dewanganj, 2720 hectares with production target 3808 tonnes in Madarganj and 4214 hectares with production target 5900 tonnes in Bakshiganj .

Zakia Sultana said the farmers have already started planting early variety mustard seed.

She said after harvesting short duration variety of mustard, the farmers will bring the land under Boro paddy cultivation.
